[glow=red,2,300] What are some of your items you made yourself or made from things gotten for next to nothing for your craft? What things did you use that you had laying around your home or gotten out of your yard or wooded area for your tools of the craft. What was the funniest thing you ever used for tools in the craft?

~S~ ohhhhhh well wood.. and sticks for wands and such..i found My Athema at a garage sale for a quarter.. fixed it up nicely.. cast iron cauldron is an antique i found at a flee market for a few dollars..
hmm Feathers.. seem to be given to me at odd times.. but I have made a talisman of honor and love out of them In a shadow box.. along with a bottom half of a turtle shell i found on the beach,, and a wand my oldest daughter made for me when she was younger its a small stick with a Pieace of pink yarn tied around the tip.. she was six then she handed it to me and said here "Mama..duno what its for but it I think You need it" made a pretty lil smudge fan out of feathers and have made and given away fancy feathered dip pens hmmm. custom alter cloths out of old funky curtains...and ROCKS... lots of rocks.. I paint them to create guardians around the house.. and in the yard.. and I grow some herbs I use for tea or wish powders or healing bags.
I am an artisan by nature anything i pick up first thing i Say is what can I make out of it!
funniest? hmmI need to think about that one..Imaspur of the moment gal.. so if my hand needs to be a bowl for water and salt and my finger my athame or wand I do that...
I think the most absurd thing was the straw, paper cup ,matches and a packet of McDonald's salt... ~heh~ I was away from home and didn't bring my "box of mojo" as my kids like to call it ( yes my dear teacher I have become a...shoebox witch too!)

[glow=red,2,300]When I first started out, I used a tin can to burn my loose Incense,I put sand out of my yard on the bottom of the can then set a small tuna fish can on top of the sand inside of the soup can. I got me some incense charcoals that are round, it lights easily and burns cleanly.I added the charcoal to the top of the tuna can...and there you go. you can also take a large nail and knock some holes into the tin can so the smoke can come through.
For burning my sage stick I used a large sea shell that has a flat side, you can get them anyplace. I made me a fan out of colored construction paper to fan my sage smoke around. I also started making my own Essential Oils to save a few bucks. I'll post more later I'm running late now~[/glow]

Like stormsong I to have found so many love things in the funnyist of placers and for pennys.
Some of my best buys are from car boot sales, In america you call them garage sales or some thing like that. I have brought some lovely bowls Made from crystal, amethyst and Agate. I use them for putting in salt and herbs i payed so little for such lovely things.
The best things i found where a 8" inch Jar like tub thing with a lid, It was painted black at the time i brought it. But i did not think much to it. Getting home and cleaning it, The paint started to come off and i thought i had damaged it. I was so surprized to find that some one had painted it. I sptripped it to find that it was made of blue lace Agate,It's so beautifull.
I have a little bowl about 5" inch made of amber and it's stunning with fossilized insects in it, Some one was useing it as an ash try. "Ho my god" Some people have no idea.
I have so many things that i have come across, Witchy books alway a good buy, As i am unable to walk past them. They just seem to call out to me.
As for making things. Im from England. Robin hood country, A land of myths and legends. With great forests. I have a great friend, He is a 500 year old oak tree and sits among many. He blessed me with a wond some years ago. And i go see him, I do spells there,I give him gifts, He offers me wisdom, Some times i leave my wond in he's safe keeping. It's a great place. Over the years the tree has dropped dead brancher and they have made a natural circle. It's brillent.

I had made my own wand. I had found a piece of wood and sanded it down and decorated it. I had put stones around it for grounding purposes.

Dearest Dakota 1978.
I also made my own wand, I like the idea of the stones for grounding, do you know of what tree the wood came from for your wand. and i will find out some information on the Magickal values of that tree.
Great work Dakota , its a truely witchy side to the craft when a person finds things that are right for a given purpose.

My home and yard ( we have about an acre) have become filled with various loved additions "to our energy circle". I too have rescued several items from garage sales and repainted or what have you each item with love and careful consideration for it's intended meaning and use. I can honestly say that I have had wonderful results with this. The items that I spend time with, loving creating or re-creating them, do seem to have a much more powerful energy to them than ones purchased over the counter and charged.

Last fall the big tree in my front yard droped several branches into the yard. I haven't quite figured out what to use them for, but I have a lot.
The city is redoing my road right now, and said that they might have to take out my tree in order to put in new sidewalks. I am not happy that they are going to be taking out this beautiful tree that has lived here longer than most of thier parents, but I think I am going to try to make the most of it. I am going to use the wood from this tree to build a nice large alter table...at least as long as I can figure out the best way to do it.
