Warlocks

Not to be confused with a vampire, a werewolf, or a ghoul, a Warlock is none of these. A Warlock is a male witch, a person who possesses evil powers to cast spells on unsuspecting victims and people he does not like. It does not have to be a person he does not like. A Warlock will cast an evil spell just for fun and pleasure, disrupting the lives of one, or even hundreds of people, for the sheer joy of seeing their pain or suffering.


There is much written about witches. There are many famous witches and stories told of them. When it comes to Warlocks however, there is much less known. Warlocks shun the limelight. Instead they prefer to lurk in the shadows and the background. They cast their spells and perform their evil magic with as little attention and fanfare as possible. Their egos do not require recognition for a horror or spell done well. Their satisfaction is in the successful execution of an evil spell on the unsuspecting victim.


While it is easier to spot and avoid a witch, it is often impossible to avoid the unknown Warlocks among us. This makes them a much bigger threat. The only certain way to avoid them is to live in a cave. But, caves have vampire bats. Sometimes you just can't win!

I think it is so F word ridiculous ...come on. ...who really believes this besides the men who were burning people at the steak for there LAND!
Ok...so anyway...my question is......what's in a name?
What does the name Warlock mean to you?
Is it ok for a male witch to call him self WARLOCK?

I always knew that a Warlock was a male witch. I have even had to explain that to a lot of people.

to the best of my knowledge.. Warlock is a derogatory term for a male Witch. It's original meaning, derived from the Old English "waer logga," is "oath breaker" and it was used in reference to a traitor to the Craft during the Burning Times...

all the bull I See about warlocks being evil conjurers just makes me roll my eyes at the Commercialized dramatic stereotyping

I agree Storm..I like the Word..WarLock for a male witch...I don't see a male witch as evil..a Witch is A witch...Male Or Female...But I like that for a Male Witch.

..I do so whole heartedly agree a witch is a witch is a witch..I do not however like the name for the sole fact of what the word means.. it was literal translates as I said to oath breaker.. I would hope no one would intentionally take such a title. for me at lest it invokes a lot of power of the wrong sort..it breeds controversy and fear.. the very things by we have been working so hard to negate

Merry meet...the etomology of the word warlock actually means "oath breaker" in Old English. I guess you could cover quite a bit of territory with that, but it was someone who betrayed their coven oath. If you trace the word "witch" back to it's roots, it is not gender specific. My hubby teaches a 13-week grass roots course on Wicca. The majority of the historical information is based on etomology and anthropology from secular sources. From Raven Grimassi's Encyclopedia of Wicca and Witchcraft: "Warlock is a term used in modern Wicca to indicate an oath breaker or someone who misuses the Craft in some manner. During the time of the Inquisition, the term indicated a male witch or a sorcerer. Warlock is still commonly misunderstood today to mean a male witch, but it is never used in modern Wicca to indicate one. The actual word "warlock" is derived from the Old English "waerloga" and Middle English "warloghe", meaning "one who breaks an oath". A male witch is called a witch. Please, understand that this is not meant in any other way but to inform, not to disrespect anyone's input.

My long lost teacher (may her rest) told me once never to call him a Warlock. As far as his faith goes he would be called a Druid. A warlock is such a negative term for someone just because they are male. He prefered Druid because he thought it a much more possitive referance.
