[glow=red,2,300]What to Use
The term Book of Shadows and HERBAL GRIMORE tends to conjure up large, leather-bound tomes with metal latches and buckles. Books like that are available but they are not cheap and can be cumbersome to use. Any blank book will do, Binders can be a practical choice, because you can move the pages around as your collection of information grows. Some very modern Witches,Wiccans use a DOS (Disk of Shadows) and keep their material on computer.
I found this very helpful to make a HERBAL GRIMORE along with my book of shadows,see the post on how to get it started here.

Starting from scratch
Once you decide to start your own HERBAL GRIMORE decorate it with things you love, Gem Stones, Sea Shells,srtips of ribbon, lace make it your own.
I also use my copier to put a recipes on an Email and some color on the back grounds, add a photo that has meaning to it regarding the herb...then I put in the plastic sheets with the wholes in it and you get two sides to your pages.
That's how I started my first Book of Shadows but I did use parchment paper but you use what you can afford, I'm am a big believer in using what we have !
If you can afford the best...then go for it....I saved up for most of my stuff and I add when I can.
Another frequent question about making a Book of Shadows is what to write with. Some want to keep a beautiful and traditional book, and think the best writing utensil is a quill and ink. While this may be a good idea, you don't want it to be too time consuming to take notes or record information. Your book just won't get used. A fountain pen is a good compromise, but any pen or pencil is fine.
Todays Witches or Wise Ones or Wiccans know how to use the Computer, I use the Color Red in a great font...then I print it out......they look awesome.
I do use the Inks and a quill on certain pages and in Spells, I also have learned the Witches Alphabet...... I will post it on here for you too, then you can just print it out for you.
What Goes in It?
Quite frankly, anything you want. Your HERBAL GRIMORE is a companion to your Book Of Shadows and it is completely up to you what goes in. The kind of material tends to fall into 2 categories: reference or personal. Reference material may include useful great herbal teas and many wonderful recipes,correspondences, moon phase dates, sabbat information etc. You can find good reference material from books or on the Internet. Personal material might be a dream journal, poetry or artwork, results of spells you've done, recordings of astral work, etc.
Personally, I have four books. One is a large, 3-ring binder filled with computer printouts from various websites. This is my collection of reference material. I also keep a smaller, hand-written book for my more personal notes. I just started my HERBAL GRIMORE for anything to do with Herbs,I use a 3-ring binder for this. The other is my Dream Book of Shadows I use a high-quality parchment paper. It's Hand crafted leather bound I special ordered for my eyes only until I pass it to my Grand Daughter.
Don't let yourself get caught up in putting together the perfect Book of Shadows. If you start it and don't like how it's turning out, start another one. As time passes, you'll find it an invaluable tool. [/glow]
