So what things do you find yourself doing that you know may be a bit weird or silly in the superstitious realm no matter what it is with-like a quirk or something?
Mine-How many of you do this? The "flip the coin" thing. I've found myself taking a coin of mine and repeating a question and saying "...heads yes, tails no..." It will come up whatever and if I don't like the answer of course it's "...okay, best 2 out of 3....maybe I did'nt make it clear enough on what I was asking" LOL This has probably been done with making baskets, the magic 8 ball and other things like that too.
Lottery-probably everyone that plays has "their formula" they stick with wheather it has ever paid off or not. I've had a formula (would take forever to go into) since the beginning of the year but no win of anything as of yet, but I'm not changing at all-only $2 a week for the big lotto and every now and then a scratch off.
This is a bit OCD, but I have to check a couple of times when I get out of the car before I lock it that I really do have my keys with me and I'm extremely protective of my purse too and everything in there has a place.
Just some examples, what's yours?

When I was about 13 I liked the can tab trick - you would bend a can tab back and forth until it broke, for each bend you would say a letter of the alphabet and the letter it broke on would be the initial of the person you would marry. When I moved out of my parent's home, I found a ribbon with a ton of can tabs on it - I kept all of the ones that came off on the letter of the guy I had a crush on at the time. At about the same age, a friend of mine had a thing with banana stickers (the little round ones that say Chiquita or Dole or whatever on them). She thought that if you slept with one on your forehead, you could dream about your future. We would think of something we wanted to know, then put the sticker on our heads, then go to sleep. In the morning we would compare notes on our dreams. We also had quite a collection of banana stickers on our head boards ! Now that I'm older, the only one I can think of (at least at the moment) is the "red sky at night, sailor's delight; red sky in the morning, sailors take warning." This refers to the color around the sun at sunset and sun rise. If it is reddish at night, the next day will be nice weather, if it is reddish at sunrise, the weather will be rainy. I live by the ocean and so the sailor reference always made sense to me. I still check the sunset every evening to see what the weather will be tomorrow. (I have found out that there is some scientific truth to this statement as well, so happy weather predicting!)

I knock on wood, it's an old one, but I still do it!
Also when planting I have to do it in the correct moon phase, things just always seem to grow better when I plant them on a waxing moon in pieces, cancer, or scorpio. Taurus and Libra are good for flowers.

I will not walk under a ladder, I will say a blessing and throw salt over my left shoulder if I spill any, I go out of my way to have a black cat walk in front of me [ya I know but it works the opp. for me] If someone around me snezzes I always say "bless you"

hmmm, it's hard to think of the supperstitions I follow while not doing them. I do do the salt over the shoulder thing, and also I knock on wood. I think it's lucky when I find a penny on tails (don't know why I prefer tails over heads). I have a lucky rock I carry if I find I need some luck. If I make a wish I will never say it outloud in case it won't come true. I think that 4 leaf clovers are lucky (though I can't remember actually finding any....ever). I believe I was born on an unlucky day cause it was the day Lincoln was shot, and the Titanic sunk (this is my very own superstition I made up. lol) I guess that's it.

WoW I didn't even know the Titanic sunk and Lincoln was shot on the same day! Now I would be scared to go back in history to find out what all happen on my Birthday.
Do you stick the penny in your shoe? If you find one that is not tails do you turn it over BEFORE putting it in your shoe. Do you wait a full 24 hours before taking it out???
As a child I was so lucky finding 4 leaf clovers, but lived on a farm and clover was all over the place, My aunt used to pay me five cents for each one I found, she was using them in some craft. Maybe it's the area we live, my children and even my grandchildren have found 4 leaf clovers, not that often but it happens, when they find one, they do as I used to, slip it under your piller till your mom snucked it out. LOL

Yeah, it was an accident finding out about both of those big disasters falling on my birthday, I wasn't trying to see what happened I just happen to like history and have read about both of those things. Actually it's not as bad as it seems, I was born on April 14th, and though Lincoln was shot that day he died the 15th, and the Titanic hit the iceburg on the 14th, but technically didn't sink till the 15th. And considering the 15th is also tax day I would say in truth April 15th is probably much more unlucky. lol.
I don't actually stick the pennies I find in my shoe.....that would drive me crazy walking around with a penny in there. lol. And if I see a penny that is on heads I don't pick it up, I just pretend it's not there. If I'm outside and find a penny on heads I have this thing where I have to kick it. lol, don't ask as I have no idea what that's about.
As to the clover thing. I remember as a child my sister and I laying in our backyard in a clover patch for hours scanning for four leaf clovers. We would do this all the time, though I only remember once ever finding one, and it was my sister who found it, not I. Maybe four leaf clovers just don't like me. lol

I totally forgot about the penny!!
I pick it up if it is heads up, and it should bring you luck for the day. If you see it tails down, you flip it so that it is heads up so the next person that sees it will be lucky.

Woah! How did I miss this post?! Didnt know it was here till you replied Gypsy. Missed this one totaly. I would have replied on it sooner as I am such a superstitious bird, touch wood lol
I dont watch a saucepan until it comes to the boil as I know "A watch pot never boils"
I never stir a pot widdershins as that would spoil my soup etc. I never cross my cutlery as that would mean an argument will start
Never let two women pour from the same tea pot also starts an argument
Breaking a mirror means seven years bad luck
I don't pass on the stairs as it is bad luck
I always place a silver coin in a baby's palm for good luck in life
Back cat crossing my path is good luck
I never brush off a money spider as it will bring me money luck
I always remember about Magpies...........If you see a magpie on its own, with no other magpies near it, it is bad luck. Magpies:1 for sorrow. 2 for joy. 3 for a girl. and 4 for a boy. 5 for silver. 6 for gold .7 for a secret never to be told. 8 for wish. 9 is a kiss. 10 is a bird you just can't miss. lol
If a bird poops on me it is good luck
If I put on my jumper inside out it's bad luck to change it.
If I step into a fairyring, the fairys will take me away with them.
I used to belong to a theatre group & these were some of our superstitions
Appearing too confident, was bad luck, therefore no actor would wish another good luck before they went on stage. In fact, the tradition is to wish for the opposite- 'break a leg' as if to reverse the luck! Clapping or whistling in the wings was regarded as very unlucky.
We never used fresh flowers on stage, it was concidered unlucky.
Unless performing it, you must never mention "That play!" Shhh (Macbeth)
And all mentioned in above members replies lol
SEE! Told ya I was superstitious! This list could go on & on lol BB Tiggy x

hmm, well; -i never go under a ladder, -always throw spilt salt over my left shoulder -never speak while a clock is chiming. (causes bad luck) -i never open an umbrella inside (last time this happened my friend, after opening it, tripped over it and sprained her ankle.) -try to always sleep facing north or east to prevent nightmares. -i always cover my mouth when i yawn. -never change sheets on a friday, and never from foot to head.ink - if a broom falls it means companys coming. thats all i can think of right now

Im not realy superstititous But i do follow most old wifes tails.
Some thing i do which is a littel odd, I believe it could be a form of repetitive behaviour or some sort of disorder,HAHA. What it is, If i do some thing and i think that its not right i go back and do it again. For example. If i was walking down the street and i treaded on a particual slab and it gets in my head and bothers me i have to do back and undo it. or Say i kick a stone and its playing on my mind i would have to go back find the stone and put it back. Mostly silly littel things. Am i going mad, Am i already mad, Like a superstition if i don't do it or put it right, It plays on my mind and i feel that some thing is going to go wrong. Im not sure if this is the same as superstition but it give that same feeling. Personaly i think im mad.

How interesting, these posts! I find myself knocking on wood at times. My maternal grandmother had a few strange ones: Never have 3 people make a bed together...Never get a haircut on Friday...Placing shoes on the bed is bad luck...Always leave out of the same door you came in...Women who are menstruating should never touch the plants or flowers in the garden...Although she wasn't aware of it, as she was raised Catholic, my grandmother was a witch, constantly teaching us folk remedies and practices. She used to do a prayer spell when someone had a headache...she would do her thing, but instructed the person to sit somewhere else afterwards. Those nearby were not to sit where the other afflicted person had sat, for fear of absorbing the negative energy of the headache...strange but true...it's interesting to see how these practices have a knack of following the generations!
