Sooooooo...........I've noticed the members here are very creative in coming up with names. I have to admit I've seen a name or two I couldn't get a handle of, some that just made me laugh, and quite a few that I thought to myself, man why didn't I come up with that. So I want to know how you came up with your name......is there a story behind it? Is it just something you liked the sound of? Does it have some meaning to it? Anyway, I know you all have a reason for the names you chose and now is your chance to share it with the rest of us. So come on, don't be shy.........

Post by Warrior Poet on Sept 5, 2006 15:05:35 GMT -5
I'd be lying if I didn't mention that I was watching Braveheart while trying to come up with a name, although be a name word or phrase, it'd be tough to prove that a name or title hadn't been used in the past unless it was a nonsense word made up on the spot. What is more important that what's in a name is what's in s/he who uses it. For that I present this...
Main Entry: war·rior Pronunciation: 'wor-y&r, 'wor-E-&r, 'wär-E- also 'wär-y&r Function: noun Usage: often attributive Etymology: Middle English werreour, from Anglo-French *werreier, guerreier, from warreier, guerreier to wage war, from werre war -- more at WAR : a man engaged or experienced in warfare; broadly : a person engaged in some struggle or conflict <poverty warriors>
Main Entry: po·et Pronunciation: 'pO-&t, -it also 'po(-)it Function: noun Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French poete, from Latin poeta, from Greek poiEtEs maker, poet, from poiein to make; akin to Sanskrit cinoti he gathers, heaps up 1 : one who writes poetry : a maker of verses 2 : one (as a creative artist) of great imaginative and expressive capabilities and special sensitivity to the medium
These are how Merrium-Webster feels about these two words, but I have thought more. A warrior is one involved in a struggle, and we all experience struggle everyday. Within and without struggle is intimately intertwined with human existence, therefore we all can be viewed as warriors, but what type of warriors. The warrior is an avatar, a universal human ideal, the representation of a goal, one of many goals, that a person may strive for. But it is a difficult path to walk, for in an existence filled with struggle, a position of strength can easily be perverted into an oppressor, a tyrant, or a mercenary. There is an important step to maintain a warrior as a pure, nonjudgmental and just, a pillar of strength, for that step I have chosen the poet. Relating a warrior and the struggles they face to an art form imparts an element of purity. I am not saying I am the perfect example of this ideal, but I do see it as a goal, and one I strive for.

My name "Estatigua"
I took it from Bryan Frouds book "Good Fairies, Bad Fairies. Estatigua is the name of the Spanish Queen of The Bad Fairies" Now this doesn't necessarily mean that she was also bad....someone has to keep all those naughty fairies under control! LOL No time to be bad herself (wink)

Mine is simple...kind of. My store is Daydreams and Moonbeams, so Daydreamer is a derivative of that. The store name came from 6 years of working to make my dream of a new-age store a reality - it was my day and night dream.

All right, well Fallen is actually short for The Fallen One, which is my myspace name. When the name popped into my head I liked it for two different reasons. First let me explain that I love to write. Short stories, poetry, anything that I can fall into. I have journals of my writting going all the way back to when I was just a kid. When I was trying to come up with a myspace name I was working on a short story, and though it was fiction I could relate to the main character, who had Fallen into shadows, into the darkness of life. In my own way I have to fight against shadows every day, and in truth I think many of us do. I admit I was not in the most cheerful mood that day, and so The Fallen One came to me, cause really the only thing keeping me from fallen into darkness is myself, and I know there are days when I don't succeed. I started shortening it almost instantly to Fallen, well in truth it made sense......it's shorter and easier, but also there is a line from one of my favorite songs by my favorite band that goes......"Help me stay awake, I'm Falling.......asleep in perfect blue buildings, beside the green apple sees." And there is a pause between the words falling and asleep, and in that pause I always felt that anything could happen, that for one second the world has stopped and there is every possibility in front of you, both good and bad. It is one of my favorite lines in any song for that one slight pause.....and ever since I heard it I always thought that there is so much possibility to the word falling (fallen).

Pyewackett is the name I chose for MySpace; it's the cat's name in the movie Bell, Book and Candle. I had no idea that I would meet witches on MySpace...must have been a premonition (smile).

Icy Winters chose me for my love of the Winter Season. I love the long dark days, bleak in their different shades of gray, the long spindley branches that leaves have long since fallen, the crystaline mist and shadowy haze the landscape casts on my eyes, the icy cold breath of the northern wind as it caresses my pink cheeks, the rain that changes to sleet and ice to transform the countryside into a fabulous sight, the snowflakes as they blow about in the howling wind, the sound of the icy wind beckoning me to come outside.... Winter is in my blood and I love it. (Too bad I live in Mississippi and don't get to see any of the beautiful white stuff)

~W0W~Let me start out saying I love this post, it lets us know about the people behind the names and how wonderful you all really are~ Gypsy is my nick name from Stevie Nicks, in my teens I would dress like her and play her music all the time...so people started calling me Gypsy from her song "Gypsy" and it just stuck with me. I'm a big Stevie Fan~

Alrighty, let's see if I can get out in a short-n-sweet version!
When a young girl immediately goes from Mom & Dad's nest and jumps into a home with a man that she marries, there really isn't any time for growing as a person, for finding the real YOU. So, after my divorce in 2003 I found I suddenly was blessed with "free time" or "I-can-do-whatever-I-want-and-not-have-to-answer-to-anyone" time! I was wandering around my favorite book store, looking at nothing specific, just browsing. Suddenly, a book fell on my head from the shelf above! A very large book, too! It was a book about being Pagan and discovering the Goddess. I was in the COOKING section. Ummm...the Occult/Pagan section was way over there~~~ ;D Unless there are some rather sneaky mice crawling around the local bookstore, I'd say that was the Goddess' way of 'hitting me over the head' and giving me a clue! WAIT! I'm supposed to be talking about my name, right? Sheesh...I go off on tangents. O.K. From this 'book bonking' (Heh.) moment, I believe I was "re-born". I was finally finding who I was. So, the beginning part of my name: Butterfly: Rebirth. Also, as an aside, my Grandmother wanted to name me "Butterfly" and I always thought, "Uber-Stupid name, Granny!!! What's my nick-name going to be? 'Butt'" Now that I'm older and tad more mature, I realize she was right on the money with that name! As for the last part of the name, I am, by trade, an Ophthalmic Technician (I poke at patient's eyeballs!) and I LOVE anything and everything to do with eyes! Actually, anything about human biology or the medical field gets me all tingly and happy. I could read the Merck Manual for fun... So there ya have it. ButterflEyez.
